Salman Khan’s upcoming film Maatrubhumi is currently one of the most talked-about projects, especially after reports of its release being postponed. The film, which was earlier titled Battle of Galwan, was initially set to release on April 17 ahead of Eid. However, according to recent updates, the makers are now planning to release it in August, possibly around the Independence Day weekend. An official announcement about the new date is still awaited.

Directed by Apoorva Lakhia and produced by Salma Khan under Salman Khan Films, Maatrubhumi also stars Chitrangda Singh, along with Abhilash Chaudhary and Ankur Bhatia in important roles. The music for the film has been composed by Himesh Reshammiya.

The movie is based on the 2020 Galwan Valley clash between Indian and Chinese troops. Salman Khan plays Colonel Santosh Babu, the commanding officer of the 16 Bihar Regiment, who led Indian soldiers during the intense confrontation while enforcing a disengagement agreement at the border.

The title of the film was changed from Battle of Galwan to Maatrubhumi on March 14, reportedly amid improving relations between India and China. Salman Khan had shared the update on Instagram with a new poster and the tagline, “May War Rest In Peace.” The teaser of the film was released on December 27, 2025, marking his 60th birthday.

Interestingly, social media buzz suggests that the postponement may also be influenced by the massive success of Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar 2, which is nearing its one-month mark and is close to surpassing Pushpa 2 to become the highest-grossing Indian film of all time. Reports claim that after seeing the film’s technical brilliance, Salman Khan and Apoorva Lakhia have decided to reshoot several portions of Maatrubhumi to make it even bigger in scale.

Well, Salman Khan was last seen in Sikandar, directed by AR Murugadoss and co-starring Rashmika Mandanna. Fans are now eagerly waiting to see if Maatrubhumi can live up to the hype and break records upon its release.
