The Indian film industry has a new record-holder, as Dhurandhar and its sequel Dhurandhar: The Revenge have created history at the global box office. Directed by Aditya Dhar, the two-film franchise has crossed a massive ₹3000 crore worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing Indian film franchise ever.
According to trade tracker reports , the combined worldwide collection of the Dhurandhar duology stands at ₹3019 crore. This includes ₹1307 crore earned by the first film, which starred Ranveer Singh and released in December last year, and ₹1712 crore from the sequel, which hit theatres on March 19.
With this milestone, the Dhurandhar series has overtaken previous record holders like the Baahubali franchise, which earned ₹2438 crore globally, and the Pushpa franchise, which stands at ₹1788 crore. The gap clearly highlights the scale of success achieved by the new franchise.
Interestingly, Dhurandhar: The Revenge faced challenges during its run. The film was banned in Gulf countries and Pakistan, which could have impacted its earnings. Despite these restrictions, the movie performed exceptionally well across India and other international markets, proving its strong audience appeal.
Well, Backed by Jio Studios and B62 Studios, the franchise has shown both strong domestic support and wide global reach. This historic achievement not only sets a new benchmark for Indian cinema but also raises expectations for future big-budget releases.
