Boxing champion Mary Kom has opened up about her deep disappointment over the situation in her home state, Manipur, during her journey on Bigg Boss 20 Speaking to fellow contestant Kanika Mann, Mary admitted that she feels helpless and even embarrassed because she has not been able to do more for the protection and safety of her state amid the ongoing ethnic conflict.

Talking about her achievements and her wish for peace in Manipur, Mary said that she could not do anything to protect her state. She expressed her desire to see unity among all communities and said that everyone should be able to live peacefully and with love.

“I could not do anything for the protection and safety of my Manipur. There are multiple tribes in Manipur; there should be unity among all. All should live peacefully with love,” Mary said.

She also opened up about her feelings of helplessness. “What can I do? I am helpless. I am not a powerful person. I have achieved a lot for our country, but I could not do anything for my state. I feel very embarrassed,” she shared. Mary added in Hindi, “Manipur mein itna kuch ho gaya, main kuch nahi kar paayi. Dukh hota hai,” saying that it hurts her to see so much happen in Manipur while feeling unable to help.

Manipur has faced more than two years of ethnic conflict between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities, resulting in deaths, displacement and widespread disruption.

Mary’s Bigg Boss 20 journey also began on an emotional note, with Priyanka Chopra, who played her in the 2014 biopic Mary Kom sending a special video message. Priyanka wished her luck and encouraged her to be herself and play with an open heart.
