Actor Nikki Tamboli is all set to appear on the upcoming reality show The 50, where she will be seen competing alongside her partner, actor Arbaz Patel. Ahead of the show’s premiere, Nikki in an interview spoke about why she initially rejected the offer, what finally convinced her to say yes, and why this show is unlike anything she has done before.
Interestingly, Nikki revealed that she had first turned down The 50 because she did not understand its concept. “When I didn’t know the concept, I said no to this show. I was approached in November when Arbaz came out of Rise And Fall. At that time, I was suffering from dengue, and since I had no idea what it was, I refused,” she shared. Despite the makers insisting on a meeting, Nikki was still uninterested and sent Arbaz instead. “They asked me to come for a meeting at Endemol’s office. I told them Arbaz would go because I wasn’t interested,” she said.
Another reason for her hesitation was the large number of contestants. With 50 participants, Nikki feared the competition could turn into unnecessary rivalry. “Competition se zyada dushmani ho jaati hai. Main kisi ko competitor maanti hi nahi hoon,” she explained, adding that intense rivalry makes it difficult for her to see anyone purely as a competitor.
However, Nikki’s perspective changed once she understood the show’s unique format. Unlike traditional reality shows, The 50 focuses on rewarding fans rather than just contestants. “It’s a payback to the fans. Jo bhi paisa aap kamaane wale ho, aapke fans ko milega,” she said, revealing a major twist that a fan could win up to Rs 50 lakh.
Coming from a non-filmy background, Nikki credited her entire journey to her fans. She shared that while she previously participated in Marathi Bigg Boss 5 for her supporters, she could not give them anything in return. The 50, she said, finally gave her that opportunity.
Well, Talking about entering the show with Arbaz Patel, Nikki said that although they are strong individuals, they are poles apart when it comes to gameplay. “He can do anything for the game, like a fake alliance. I can’t. For me, a reality show has to be real,” she concluded.
Now it would be interesting to see how things unfold in The 50.
