Aamir Khan is all set to make a grand comeback with his next film Sitaare Zameen Par, and he has made one thing very clear – the film will be released only in theatres. In a recent interview, Aamir shared his strong views about the current trend of releasing films quickly on OTT platforms. According to him, this shift has hurt the cinema-going experience. “Releasing films too soon online takes away from the magic of the big screen,” he said. “Good films deserve to be watched in theatres.”

Aamir also spoke honestly about his past work. He admitted that he didn’t like his own film Thugs of Hindostan. “I wasn’t confident even during the release. I couldn’t sleep peacefully,” he confessed. Talking about his last film Laal Singh Chaddha, Aamir said he was deeply affected when the film didn’t work. “75% of the audience didn’t like it, but I was part of the 25% who did. I needed time to recover from that failure. I couldn’t return to acting immediately.”

On why he chose Sitaare Zameen Par, Aamir explained that he instantly connected with the story. The film is a spiritual successor to Taare Zameen Par, but this time, it’s about ten special children helping their coach. “It carries the same message forward, but the roles are reversed,” Aamir said.

He also pointed out how OTT affected other good films too. He believed Laapataa Ladies could have been a superhit in theatres. “The word of mouth was amazing, but the film went straight to Netflix. If it hadn't released on Netflix so early it could have done wonders,” he added.

Talking about Bollywood’s current struggles at the box office, Aamir blamed the outdated release model. “People now think, ‘Why go to theatres when it’ll be on OTT or TV in 8 weeks?’ That’s the problem,” he said.

As a producer, Aamir has decided that Sitaare Zameen Par will release only in cinemas. “No YouTube, no OTT – all those are fake news. This film is only for theatres,” he confirmed.

The film is a sports comedy-drama directed by R. S. Prasanna and produced by Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit. It stars Aamir and Genelia Deshmukh and is a remake of the Spanish film Champions. The movie will mark the Hindi film debut of ten new young actors: Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishna Varma, Samvit Desai, Vedant Sharma, Ayush Bhansali, Ashish Pendse, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain, Naman Mishra, and Simran Mangeshkar.

Well, Aamir also spoke about his nephew Imran Khan, saying he prefers offbeat films like Delhi Belly and is not comfortable with mainstream cinema’s pace. He praised his son Junaid’s recent work in both a theatrical and OTT film, saying, “He’s a fighter and a good actor – though he needs to improve on giving interviews,” he added with a laugh.

Finally, Aamir shut down all rumours about PK 2, saying, “There’s no such plan right now.”
