The trailer of First Copy is finally out, and it marks the much-awaited acting debut of comedian and reality show winner Munawar Faruqui. Known for his sharp humor and music on YouTube, and later gaining massive popularity after winning Lock Upp hosted by Kangana Ranaut and Bigg Boss 17 hosted by Salman Khan, Munawar now takes a big leap into the world of acting.

First Copy is a unique series that revolves around the world of films and entertainment, but from an unexpected angle. It tells the story of a man who starts selling first copies of newly released movies to middle-class people who want to enjoy cinema at home in a budget-friendly way. But what starts as a way to bring entertainment to everyone soon turns into a bigger issue. Since these first copies are pirated versions, they begin to pose a serious threat to theatre business — opening up a debate between affordability and legality.

The show not only explores this underground world of film piracy but also dives into the emotional and moral dilemmas around it. As things progress, the story gets more complicated, with lives of different characters getting tangled. The series stars Surbhi Chandna, Meiyang Chang, and veteran actor Gulshan Grover in key roles alongside Munawar.

Interestingly, First Copy is set to release on June 20 — the same day Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan returns to the big screen with his much-hyped film Sitaare Zameen Par, which will be a theatrical exclusive. This makes the release date all the more symbolic, as Munawar’s show focuses on how theatre releases are affected by piracy.

The series is part of Amazon’s MX Player lineup and was announced along with other exciting shows like Made In India: A Titan Story, featuring Jim Sarbh and Naseeruddin Shah.
