The match was part of the ECL 2024 tournament at the IG Indoor Stadium in Delhi. Elvish captained his team, Haryanvi Hunters (HH), while Munawar led the Mumbai Disruptors (MD).

The two captains were seen engaging in lighthearted banter with presenter Shefali Bagga before the match started, creating a friendly atmosphere. However, things took a dark turn when Elvish received a death threat for playing against Munawar. The threat immediately caused panic among the officials, who took swift action to ensure the safety of everyone in attendance.

As part of the safety protocol, the jam-packed stadium was evacuated, and the entrances were sealed. Photos and videos that surfaced on social media showed Elvish's fans exiting the stadium in large numbers. In response to the controversy, Elvish had issued an unconditional apology, stating that he would prioritize his religion over any friendship. He made his stance clear by saying, "Apne Hindu dharam ke upar, apne sanatan dharam ke upar, ek nahi, hazaar Munawar Faruqui qurbaan hai. I don't consider him my friend or brother."
