The Union government has officially banned the song “Sarke Chunariya,” featuring Nora Fatehi and Sanjay Dutt, after it sparked widespread controversy over its lyrics and visuals. The announcement was made by Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw during a discussion in the Lok Sabha.
Addressing Parliament, Vaishnaw confirmed that action had already been taken against the track. He emphasized that freedom of speech in India is not unlimited and must follow the reasonable restrictions set by the Constitution. He clearly stated that the song had already been banned and that all forms of expression must stay within constitutional boundaries.
The controversy began soon after the song’s release, with many critics accusing it of promoting vulgarity and objectifying women. The issue quickly gained attention, leading to strong reactions from the public and various organisations. Complaints were filed demanding strict action, including the registration of an FIR and removal of the song.
The backlash grew stronger when the Haryana and Karnataka Women Commissions raised objections. Actor-politicians Ravi Kishan and Kangana Ranaut, along with singer Armaan Malik, also criticised the song, calling its content inappropriate and offensive.
In addition, a legal petition was submitted to the Central Board of Film Certification, seeking an immediate ban on the grounds that the song was obscene and could negatively impact minors.
