The first glimpse of one of India’s most anticipated films is finally here. On the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti, the makers of Ramayana unveiled a grand new trailer, giving audiences a powerful look at Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the film is backed by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios in association with global VFX giant DNEG and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations. The story is based on the ancient Sanskrit epic Ramayana by Valmiki.

The film features a massive ensemble cast. Alongside Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi plays Sita, while Yash takes on the role of Ravana. Ravi Dubey appears as Lakshmana, and Sunny Deol plays Hanuman. The cast also includes Kajal Aggarwal as Mandodari, Rakul Preet Singh as Surpanakha, along with Arun Govil, Kunal Kapoor, Adinath Kothare, Sheeba Chaddha, Indira Krishnan and Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi.

The film’s music is being composed by two legends — Hans Zimmer and A. R. Rahman. Planned as a two-part global release, Part 1 will hit theatres on Diwali 2026, followed by Part 2 on Diwali 2027. Both parts are being filmed for IMAX.

The story follows Lord Rama’s exile with Sita, which takes a dramatic turn when Ravana abducts her, leading to a massive battle between good and evil. Part 1 is expected to end with Sita’s abduction, while Part 2 will showcase Rama’s quest to rescue her.

Ramayana has seen many adaptations over the years, including Ramayan by Ramanand Sagar, the 1943 film Ram Rajya by Vijay Bhatt — famously the only film watched by Mahatma Gandhi — and the international animated film Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama by Ram Mohan and Yugo Sako.

Well, With a stellar cast, global scale, and epic storytelling, this new Ramayana promises to be a cinematic spectacle like never before.
