One of the year’s most-awaited films, Governor, starring Manoj Bajpayee and Adah Sharma, has been generating strong buzz ever since its trailer launch. Set against the backdrop of India’s 1990 economic crisis, the film explores a crucial chapter in the nation’s history. The trailer received an enthusiastic response from audiences for bringing the history to the screens.
Apart from its powerful narrative, Governor is also generating buzz for the immense effort that went into authentically recreating the period. A source close to the production revealed that one of the biggest challenges for the makers was authentically recreating the era on screen. Since much of the film was shot at real outdoor locations, the team had to carefully transform modern-day surroundings into a believable 1990s setting.
The source revealed, “One of the biggest challenges during the making of Governor was recreating an era that feels completely authentic on screen. Since it was shot extensively in real outdoor locations, a lot of effort went to eliminate everything that looked like the modern world, beginning from the cars, signboards, billboards, mobile towers, and LED displays, right down to the hairstyle and attire of people in a crowd. Every frame had to transport audiences back in time, and achieving that required meticulous planning and attention to detail from the entire team."
Inspired by true events, Governor transports audiences to one of the most turbulent periods in India’s economic history. Set amid the 1990 financial crisis, the film unfolds a gripping story of high-stakes decisions, political maneuvering, and institutional conflict. The trailer teases an intense narrative driven by uncertainty and ambition, while National Award-winning actor Manoj Bajpayee commands attention in a powerful role, portraying a Governor at the heart of a nation-defining moment.
Featuring impactful dialogues, this remarkable tale is brought to you by Sunshine Pictures. The film, directed by Chinmay Mandlekar and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, is co-produced by Aashin A. Shah and features a script by Suvendu Bhattacharyjee, Saurabh Bharat, Ravi Asrani, and Vipul Amrutlal Shah. The film features lyrics by Javed Akhtar, with music composed by Amit Trivedi. The movie is set to be released on 12th June 2026.
