Kangana Ranaut’s much-anticipated political drama Emergency, which delves into a turbulent chapter of Indian history, faces an unexpected setback. The film, featuring Ranaut as former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, was initially set to hit theatres on September 6, 2024. However, recent developments have pushed the release date into uncertainty.

The film, which examines the controversial Emergency period under Gandhi's leadership, has already stirred significant interest and debate. Kangana Ranaut, who not only stars in the movie but also makes her directorial debut with it, had been eagerly promoting the project. The cast includes Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhry, Shreyas Talpade, and Satish Shah.

According to reports Emergency has not yet received certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). This delay was confirmed by Ranaut on her social media platform X (formerly Twitter). She shared that the CBFC's certification process has been stalled due to pressure and threats faced by board members. The Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Satyapal Jain informed the Punjab and Haryana High Court that the board is taking extra care to consider the sentiments of all communities, particularly the Sikh community.

The sensitive nature of the film's subject matter, which includes the portrayal of significant historical figures and events like the assassination of Indira Gandhi, Bhindranwale, and the Punjab riots, has led to objections from some Sikh communities. These objections and the associated threats have reportedly influenced the CBFC's decision-making process.

Ranaut expressed her frustration over the situation, highlighting the impact of these challenges on the film's release. She emphasized that the film had already been cleared, but the certification was halted due to external pressures.

Well As it stands, Emergency will not be released on the originally scheduled date, and its new release timeline remains uncertain. This delay is a significant turn of events for one of Ranaut’s most ambitious projects.
