Shefali Jariwala, widely known as the Kaanta Laga girl, tragically passed away on Friday, June 27, at the age of 42. The actress reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest at her Mumbai residence. Her husband, actor Parag Tyagi, rushed her to the hospital, but she was declared dead on arrival.
Just days before her death, a video of Shefali had gone viral where she proudly said, "I want to be known as Kaanta Laga girl till the day I die." The iconic music video, released in the early 2000s, made her a household name and remains one of the most remembered remixes in India’s pop culture history.
Born on December 15, 1982, in Mumbai, Shefali Jariwala was not just a pretty face. She held a degree in Computer Applications from Sardar Patel College of Engineering. Despite her academic background, she chose to pursue a career in the entertainment industry and quickly rose to fame thanks to her bold and striking appearance in Kaanta Laga.

Following the massive success of the song, Shefali featured in several other music videos, including Sweet Honey Mix and Kabhi Aar Kabhi Paar Remix. In 2004, she made her Bollywood debut in Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, starring Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, and Priyanka Chopra. Though her role was limited, she gained more recognition through television.
She later appeared in the Kannada film Huduguru in 2011 and starred in ALT Balaji’s web series Baby Come Naa in 2018 opposite Shreyas Talpade.
Shefali also gained immense popularity after participating in Bigg Boss 13, one of the most talked-about seasons of the reality show. She previously appeared in Nach Baliye 5 and Nach Baliye 7 alongside her husband Parag Tyagi.
Earlier in life, Shefali was married to Harmeet Singh of the Meet Brothers in 2004. The couple divorced in 2009. She met Parag Tyagi in 2010, and they tied the knot in 2014 after dating for four years.
Well, Shefali bravely battled epilepsy since she was 15 and inspired many with her strength and courage. Her sudden death has left fans and the industry in shock, but her legacy as the unforgettable Kaanta Laga girl lives on.
