The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has provisionally seized assets worth Rs 52.49 lakh belonging to popular YouTuber Elvish Yadav, singer Rahul Yadav, also known as Fazilpuriya, and a company, Sky Digital India Pvt. Ltd., in connection with a money laundering investigation related to a wildlife crime case. This case involves the illegal use of snakes and exotic animals in music videos and vlogs.

According to officials, the ED's action stems from alleged charges of money laundering, following an investigation carried out by Noida Police into a snake venom case. The assets seized include agricultural land in Uttar Pradesh's Bijnor district and bank accounts associated with Elvish Yadav, Rahul Yadav, and Sky Digital India Pvt. Ltd. These properties were seized under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002.

The investigation was triggered by two separate police cases filed between November 2023 and March 2024 in Noida and Haryana’s Badshahpur. These cases were filed under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. Elvish Yadav and Rahul Yadav were among those named in these cases.

The first case involved a sting operation conducted by Noida police, where agents supplying snakes and snake venom for parties were caught. After the investigation, Elvish Yadav and others were formally charged by the police.

In the second case, it was alleged that Elvish Yadav and Rahul Yadav used snakes illegally in their music videos and vlogs, causing cruelty to wildlife. The ED’s investigation found that they used protected species of snakes and exotic animals, like iguanas, in these videos to attract more followers and generate revenue.

The music videos were then handed over to Sky Digital India Pvt. Ltd. for uploading on YouTube, where they earned money through views and ads. As part of the probe, the ED has identified these earnings as proceeds of crime and attached both movable and immovable properties linked to Elvish Yadav, Rahul Yadav, and the company.

Well, This case highlights the legal risks involved in the illegal use of wildlife for commercial purposes.
