Comedian Munawar Faruqui has found himself in legal trouble after a complaint was filed against him for allegedly insulting religious sentiments through his show Hafta Vasooli on JioHotstar. The complaint was filed by advocate Amita Sachdeva, who took to social media to share a copy of the complaint, which accuses Faruqui of promoting obscenity and hurting religious sentiments.

The advocate’s complaint, which was also shared on X, requests an FIR (First Information Report) under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, specifically Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Sections 196, 299, and 353, along with the IT Act and other relevant laws. The complaint claims that the show insults multiple religions, violates cultural values, and negatively influences young minds and society as a whole.

In her post, advocate Sachdeva expressed her determination to see justice done, stating, “If no action is taken, I will approach the Court to ensure justice prevails.” She also emphasized that the complaint had been sent via email and would be physically submitted and speed-posted on Monday.

Faruqui, who is known for his stand-up comedy, has faced legal challenges before, and this latest controversy has sparked further criticism. The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, a right-wing organization, also shared a post on X, demanding a ban on Hafta Vasooli. The complaint suggests that the content of the show could potentially influence young viewers in a harmful way, adding to the ongoing debate around freedom of expression and cultural values in India.

Well, This incident follows another controversy involving podcaster Ranveer Allahabadia. His comments on India’s Got Latent about 'parental sex' led to multiple FIRs being filed against him and other influencers present in the episode. This series of legal issues highlights the sensitive nature of content in the digital age, where comedians and influencers face increasing scrutiny for their remarks and the impact they may have on society.
