The incident occurred when she referred to the festival of Holi as "Chaapri logon ka favourite festival hota hai Holi," which translates to "Holi is the favorite festival of Chaapri people." The controversy escalated when Vikas Fhatak, also known as Hindustani Bhau, a former Bigg Boss 13 contestant, filed a formal criminal complaint against Farah Khan. The complaint, lodged at Khar Police Station on February 21, accuses Farah Khan of hurting religious sentiments and making an offensive statement about the sacred Hindu festival.

Hindustani Bhau’s lawyer, Ali Kaashif Khan Deshmukh, argued that Farah’s remark was disrespectful and could lead to communal disharmony. As the controversy spread, many people took to social media to criticize Farah Khan for her insensitive comment, calling her words "shameful." Among those speaking out was Tajinder Bagga, a politician and Bigg Boss 18 contestant, who also condemned Farah's statement.
